Scam on Craigslist
A few days ago I posted my computer up for sale on Craigslist and has been getting some decent response. Yesterday I got this email from a woman named Tracy Anderson who is interested in buying the Powerbook. She started asking what my final price is, which is a little different than how most scams work on Craigslist (from what I read, most people got offered a bit higher than what they asked for). So I told her what the price is and she said yes. She then told me she hasn’t bought on Craigslist before and whether I can accept money order. Her email looks totally legit until when at the end, she mentioned her phone is broken so I can’t reach her. See her emails below:

Before getting paid with USPS,both the buyer and seller are notified by USPS via email that the transaction has been processed and approved.After this approval confirmation,USPS will then mail out your money order directly to your residence within 3-5 business days which will arrive at your mail box and payment will as well be received in U.S funds.As for the shipping of the item,it will be done through my FedEx account,so you don’t have to pay for any shipping charges after shipment has been made.
Inorder for me to complete the transaction through my USPS account,i will need you to provide me with your Full Name, Street Address , City , State , Zip-Code , Private Email Address and likewise your Phone # so as to know where payment will arrive after receiving the approval notification confirming my payment.I look forward in doing business with you.
Glad I did a search on her with Google and found people complaining about her all over the Internet. Anyway, a good rule of thumb is, if you ever have any suspicion about the other party, Google their name or only do face to face cash transaction.

Wow…I am really glad I did something smart for once. I put my Imac on Craig’s and received the very same response from this “woman”. I thought the grammer was a bit odd and decided to check the disease (hypertitise) she said her daughter had and found this instead!!! Thank you so much for starting this post…let’s see if I can string this person along a bit and make their life difficult. If I find anything specific out I will let you know. By the way if anyone ever has a problem with Ebay post back on here as I have a good friend who is high up with the company and may be able to help in a bad situation.

I just got this exact same letter… Kinda f’ed.
I received 2 offers from from a Afeez Olu and a mark f victor, both offered more than I asked for a computer, and both wanting to pay with USPS Online Payment. When I called the Post office about this service, they had no clue of it. I also noticed that the nomenclature was identical to the above email:

He really poured it on!! And then the next email was that I had to ship item and send usps tracking number in order to have payment sent. I almost fell for it. I had sent my name address and phone to get payment. One of them, Afeez, who’s shipping address is in Nigeria, actually called me through a teletype service to try to talk me into shipping the item and that he guaranteed I’d be paid. He even said, “.. you will get your money… I believe in God..” I informed him both over the phone and in 3 emails that there was no way I was shipping without having payment in hand.
The other one , mark f victor, was a little more slick. He did not use the same wording and said that I would have my money before shipping. Watch out for those types. Sounds like they are all mainly after computers and are hitting all the listings on craigslist.
damn… and I just gave up my full name and address. what the heck does she get out of a name and address? Selling names to telemarketers and bulk mailers? Anyway, she apparently changed her email address…

I have the exact same scam going on now. I posted my computer for sale and they responded with they will pay $25 more than I asked. I googled the address and it doesn’t seem to exist so I decided to play along and said that I will be in Vegas on business this week. They said it was too long to wait and to just ship it instead-I said if meeting in person the next four days was too long then shipping would take longer and it won’t work out. This quickly changed their mind. My most recent reply was asking them what hypertitise is and that I didn’t see the point in them sending a money order when we would be meeting face to face and could just exchange the money then. I will send this link to them in my next reply and see what the respond with.
Just checked the disease “hypertitise” on google and found this page. Glad I checked cuz this person wanted to buy a computer from me too!
I got the exact email, except the names are different. This time its Nicole White. I googled that phone number and it’s actually some second hand resale electronic company. WHAT A SCAM.
Same thing here. I found this posting by using the phone number 702-577-3846. This one is using the name Nicole White with a gmail address of nikkylicky01@gmail.com.
Yup, I just posted my laptop on Craigslist also and got the very same email from Nikkilicky007@gmail.com
The minute the email mentioned Money Order I knew it was a scam!!
I decided to do a search to see if anyone else had gotten this same email and sure enough I found this site.
Sorry to hear about the few people that got scammed. That’s a hard lesson learned…ouch!

This scammer used SC address….googled and it’s a NY number….surprise, surprise…not connected with her name…..avoid long distance transactions. Only deal locally.

Why does anyone need a computer sale to be transacted “fast”? Avoid distant transactions. Only deal locally.
I have been dealing with “Nicole”, and have sent the information to the IC3, Internet Crime Complaint Center. All of you should send your information to them so that they may investigate and prosecute, otherwise this fraud will continue.
I just almost got scammed on Amazon and had posted the details.

I just got an email from “Nicole White”. I knew it was a scam from the second I read it with all the misspellings and bad grammar.
Has anyone actually tried to call the 702-577-3846 number?
I’m thinking about calling and screwing with them for a bit. It’s funny, the address she gave is 5055 W. Sahara in Vegas, that address is for a circuit city out there I recognized it right away because I was in Vegas last week and had to go to that circuit city to get a camera battery.
Right now I’m stringing her along to get as much info as I can from her. She says she wants the computer shipped to 4650 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. I looked it up and thats the address for Children’s Hospital. I have a feeling that it’s an employee in the mail room or something there. Hopefully she sends me a name and then I’m calling Human Resources at the hospital.

I did search on the phone number and they are also trying to scam people by offering them a job on craigslist. I’m currently trying to get some more information from them that I can forward to the CO AG’s office.

I am selling a laptop on Craigslist and this same woman or deadbeat contacted me too. Why are people so sick! She or it even said that her daughter who was ill, making you to feel sorry for her.

Beware of this scammer on Craigslits
This scammer sent the money order via ups to make believe legitimate he also asked more of the selling price. It took approximately a week for the money order from Walmart to be recognized as counterfeit. GUys beware of this i fell for it. Read his emails below…

This was so obvious a scam… i instantly googled her contact and found this site. I turned her into the FBI and sent her this link… There are so many bozos on Craigslist … I think I am going to drop them… I have already dropped ebay for this same reason. Just a haven for weasels. Remember scammers…. Karma is relentless!!!

I got the email today, too. I was immediately suspicious, and googled the name of the photo studio. I hope someone’s able to shut this scammer down. Man!! To see how far back the thread goes, though….it’s discouraging. It doesn’t sound like there’s any way to stop them.

Had my computer packed and ready to go, Then wanted to check out her studio to see what kinda stuff they do, but got this blog.. THANK GOD!!!! I also avoided a HUGE mistake.. I really wish we could track this person down.. Oh well,, they’ll get what the deserve in time….

I got the same email. Told her I’d accept the money order and mail the item once the authenticity of the money order could be confirmed. She’s offered me $50 over my asking price and even offered to pay for the shipping. Oh yes, she also asked me to giftwrap it for her little darling who is so desperately ill. My husband is an investigator for the state…he saw this one coming from a mile away.

I have four of them on the line right now, two with Nigerian addresses, one in Australia and one in Las Vegas. I am just draggin them on …wasting their time and waiting until THEY say/do something stupid.

I got a final address form her for somewhere right outside of SF. I looked it up and it was some sort of shady accounting office that specialized in debt relief. I called the cops in the town that it was in, spoke to a detective in fraud and he said because I never sent anything, she did nothing illegal. He didn’t seem to care at all that this scam was going on.
I was very close to getting scammed. Matter of fact, the package is at FedEx…..waiting for me to pick it back up! I had dropped it off on my way to work. When I got here I had been having trouble getting to my email to send the tracking information, then I ran across this blog. THANK GOD!!! I called the FedEx and they are going to hold it, I hadnt sent the tracking information. Same person Nicole White. What can be done about this?

Oh and I emailed her back, with a link to this site telling her that everyone knows she is a scammer, and she should be ashamed of what she is doing, and she should go get a real job and stop screwing people over.

totally got played by this lady, all of a sudden there was a problem with the way they were going to send the money order cause they were upgrading their system over memorial day weekend…. it was my first time on craigslist selling something. totally wish i would have done my research especially since the first thing that came up was SCAM when i googled the info i got. this is why you should always listen to your mom…. she told me not to send it until i had the money, i guess on the bright side, i got rid of one more thing in my house that i don’t need! gotta think positive. i will totally learn from this thing.

Here is a new twist to the scam…..I just received an invoice from FedEx for the shipping costs! There are two different invoices totaling $234.38. One is for a fictitious shipment and the other for the one I stopped (it never left the FedEx center). This is crazy. I am calling FedEx as soon as they open tomorrow. Hopefully they will get the authorities involved. I’ll keep you all posted.
I called Fedex and found that these people (scammers) also created a Fedex account in my name! Fedex figured it out and have reported it. Wow they are really something.

he only thing that I’m worried about is that “Nicole” might be “selling” laptops to these people at the various addresses and then when we ship the package to “Nichole” she is collecting payment from these people for effectively stolen goods (as in, “see, I shipped it, please pay me now”). Not very cool. I would recommend getting in touch with the police depts in these cities and seeing if they can contact these victims/scammers..

Just so u r aware, they have moved on to scamming people with work-at-home positions now. This is how “one” of them works, College textbooks are shipped to u, u repackage them and then ship them back out. What they don’t tell u is that the books are purchased with STOLEN credit cards…u find that out when the local police show up at your door.
I thought his son’s birthday was in August according to another post by Brooke on August 28th. I’m gonna have a little fun with this one. At least he offereed to pay $120 more than I was asking. That was awefully nice.

Funny, this Brickner name comes up in a bunch of posts. I just got a response from a Ryan Brickner in Spain trying to pull one of those money order scams. See correspondence below. I fell for this scam before like an idiot but I know better now.
