Don’t let your guard down, scams are still everywhere.

I recently posted my Sony DSC-T7 for sale on Amazon, hoping it will not be a scammers territory. Unfortunately I almost got scammed again, and they are much more sophisticated this time.

They first contacted me through Amazon. I have to admit my guard was down since the email address was clearly from Amazon.com. Below is the email:

Hello from Amazon.com.

A potential buyer has sent you the following message about an item you have for sale on Amazon.com, or about your store at Amazon.com. Please respond to the individual directly by replying to this e-mail. For your reference, the buyer’s e-mail address is percy2jenna@gmail.com.

Item: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T7/B – Digital camera – 5.1 Mpix – optical zoom: 3 x – supported memory: MS Duo, MS PRO Duo – black [Electronics] [ASIN: B0009STEGY ]

Important Notice: Only ship to the address shown in your seller account. Do not honor buyer requests to ship orders to any address other than the one provided by Amazon.com. Do not accept any payment method other than Amazon Payments. Payment for the sale may be withheld if these guidelines are not followed.

seventyoneplace ,

I will like purchase your camera for my husband’s son for $230.00,kindly advise back the present condition.

Regards.

Notice: Amazon.com may retain copies of all forwarded e-mails, and takes no responsibility and assumes no liability for the content of any messages forwarded to you.

Amazon.com will never e-mail you and ask you to disclose or verify your Amazon.com password, credit card, or banking account number. If you receive a suspicious e-mail with a link to update your account information, do not click on the link–instead report the e-mail to Amazon.com for investigation. Go to amazon.com/phish to find out more.

I replied to her with my personal email address, thinking this will actually lead to a successful sale. Through our email exchange, she indicated that she is buying the camera as a birthday gift for her boyfriend’s son and will like that to be shipped immediately so she can get it in a week. I subsequently received an email from what appears to be a standard Amazon email with her payment information and shipping address.

I was quite convinced by the email until I saw that she wants this shipped to Nigeria. I then went on the internet and search for Amazon scams and realized that a lot of people received the same type of email. Gmail usually hides the email address, but when I click on Show Details, the email address is actually not Amazon but this: amazon.customes@accountant.com. Nice try.

Thanks for this report…I got an almost identical email about my camera (for sale at Amazon.com; the email came from amazon.customes@accountant.com). Interesting, too, that the woman is buying my camera for her husband’s birthday – IN NIGERIA.

    Slick stuff. BEWARE!!

  2. Justin on

Piece of crap!! I JUST received the same scam… I was so happy that it was going to be sold, but the whole email conversation seemed fishy; if you’ve had previous scam experiences, you’ll start to notice all these scums write the same exact way. It’s just weird ‘Engrish’.

    1. MAJOR sign that it was fake: I double checked to see if my auction was still listed and it was. 2. I checked the payment notification email address and it said “amazon.customes@accountant.com” 3. Seller states they’ll be glad to pay extra for shipping fees no matter how big it is.

This douche is probably the same scammer. He wants to have it sent to NIGERIA also stating to ship it immediately for his son’s birthday. Always a sign of a scammer if they need it shipped right away. Bastards!

I have it packaged and I was seriously going to the post office soon.

  3. Justin on

    Same exact fake payment email.

I just received a second scammer and they used amazon.com-@accountant.com

    Dispatch to: Micheal Adams
Delivery address: 3,Anuoluwapo Street,Off Market Street
    City : Shomolu
    State : Lagos
    Country : Nigeria
    Zip Code : 23401

and the first scammer was amazon.customes@accountant.com:

    Dispatch to: Wale Martins
Delivery address: 4 Rasaq Balogun Street,
    City : Surulere
    State : Lagos
    Country : Nigeria
    Zip Code : 2341

If you have to ship it to NIGERIA, you know that’s a big giveaway. A huge warning sign.

I actually googled amazon.customes@accountant.com and came across this blog. That account should be deleted. I guess I would have to email abuse@accountant.com?

accountant.com is a child of mail.com. You should direct your fraud emails to abuse@mail.com

    Good luck!

Guys here is what to do if you are being scammed:

If PayPal payment offered – do not open the email – instead check your PayPal account – better still, speak to PayPal to make sure funds are paid to you definitely.

PayPal will never ask you to provide tracking numbers for orders (cause the scammers will send you a fake PayPal payment, asking you to give them a tracking number for already posted parcel before they ‘release’ the funds. Thats bulshit! These a fake paypal emails (they are being currently sent by a Pensylvanian IP address at zoominternet.net

Also, because they are asking for Royal Mail Signed For International delivery (the bastards are aware that once you post your parcel, its against Royal Mail policy to intercept the parcel. In this event – you go to your local police office immediately. You report the crime (print all your correspondence with headers and footers) and ask them to issue you with RIPA warrant, and speak to Royal Mail for you to hold package whilst this is being done.

You may have to pay a fee to get your package back.

Immediately report your communication with the scammer to the following website:

    http://www.efccnigeria.org/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=35

Currently scammer is asking people to send him things to :

    Tayo Adekunle
    55 raza balogun street
    surulere,lagos
    23401
    NG.

Its always a ‘birthday present’ and they always offer to overpay for postage.

I almost fell for this scam. I had my camera for sale on Amazon. I received an email from Amazon regarding the condition of the camera. I made the same mistake of replying to the email. Immediately I got another email stating that the person will make payment for the item via amazon asap and to ship it first thing the next morning via Usps Priority mail international 6-10days,so that the receiver can receive it by next Friday morning for his birthday. I was gullible enough to go until the post office. Thanks to the post master who warned me about these Nigerian scam (not that I was not aware. I just didn’t think it would happen on Amazon too). I immediately came back and verified the email address. It was Amazon.com Payments . Phew! What a close shave.

There must be some legal action taken against these con men.

    ji

ive had it twice now but they must think im stupid lol!!
i dont fall for it because i check everyone i sell too to verify there legit now i got it for the second mobile ive sold on amazon

please be carefull not to fall into there traps i had this email from amazon after i contacted them…

There will be no buyer details in the “Sold Dispatch Now” email. There will be instructions telling you to go to your Seller Account and get the buyers details there.

As advised on the Seller Announcements Board, we have had a number of contacts from sellers stating they have received fake ‘Sold, Dispatch Now’ emails recently.

Please also note that Nigeria is not a country which is Payments enabled and sellers are not permitted to sell electronic items overseas. Therefore if you receive emails purporting to be from Amazon which request items be sent to Nigeria or electronic items be sent overseas you can be certain they did not originate from Amazon.co.uk and are not confirmatory of a genuine sale.

When you do get a “Sold Dispatch Now” email you should first check your seller account to see if it is a genuine sale.

First, under the heading “Manage Your Inventory” click on the link “View your current inventory”.

Here you will be able to see if your item has gone from open to closed listings.

Secondly, under the heading “Manage Your Orders” click on the link “View your orders” here you will be able to see the date of the order ,the order #, the link to contact the buyer and the status of the payment.
If you click on the order #, this will bring up the buyers name and address.

Finally, under the heading “Get Paid” click on the link “View your payments account”. If you search the transactions you will be able to see if the payment has completed.

  11. Bill on

I also got an e-mail saying a potential buyer had a question about my item. So I replied using my iPhone which will reply using a different e-mail address than the one listed with amazon. The next day, I recieved and e-mail to my iPhone saying to ship now. When I looked at my seller account, Item was still available for sale. Also, the seller was also from Nigera.

I have just had the exact same thing happen to me. Please let this be a warning to everyone! I posted my stereo for sale on http://www.gumtree.com and was delighted when I recieved an email from a buyer almost straight away. Exactly like everyone else I recieved an email from a person who was “interested in buying this item for my brother son who is presently in West Africa on a Research Tourist.” The address he wanted it sent to was “Name Busari O Basit, Address Block C Rabiatu Thompson Crescent, City Surulere, State Lagos
Zip code 23401.” He wanted it sent out immediately. Like a tool I sent him a paypal money request without checking the address online. Luckily I didn’t send the item and have since withdrawn the payment request. The second I typed City Surulere, State Lagos
Zip code 23401 into google this blog came up and I couldn’t believe it! Let this be a lesson to everyone to be so careful and never send items before recieveing payemnt! I also was asked to send it via Royal Mail home delivery.

same here and i even send out the good to UK then i call up bank and to confirm whether are there have any transfer to my account a not and they told me they don have any transfer to my account. So i already call up Fedex to hold my package and return back to malaysia. Thank God and i almost got cheated on that. Thanks for this post as well.

I am a Nigerian, like Dorothy in the wizard of Oz, was dumped in this site when I googled to find out my zip code – surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.
I have a legit business and we are not all out to frisk you of your money. On the contrary, we do have online payments and merchant account systems. Sellers are also allowed to sell electronically overseas.
Guess how I feel when I get a virus on my computer? I guess I know where they come from these pple who have nothing to do but…..
Just pissed off. One anti-Nigerian site too many!!!

I sold last week a very expensive watch on eBay. I recieved a quick response from PayPal which confirmed they had recieved payment and was holding it in my pending paypal account as they needed the tracking number to be sent, which I unfortunately did.

I realised the next day that it was a scam when the money was not transferred into my paypal account. I sent copies of the emails to eBay who confirmed they were not from paypal.

The police have been extremely helpful and produced all the paperwork needed for royal mail to stop the parcel which is call a ‘ripa’. Unfortunately even though royal mail had the paperwork at Heathrow Intelligence department, and could stop it, it was sent last Friday.

I am absolutely devasted, royal mail have started an investigation as to why the parcel was sent and have enqired about stopping it at it’s destination…..NIGERIA!

  17. f medina on

Well it seems these people won’t stop I recently list my ps3 on Amazon and was contacted the exact same way. They sent an invoice from accountant.com. Be aware! If it’s authentic it will always be from “example”@amazon. com, key being the amazon.com.

  18. Emily Danaher on

I was searching for these scammers out of curiosity. The same thing happened to me also, and it seems to be that they mostly ask for cameras to be sent over to Nigeria.

I recieved an email from a potential buyer that seemed legitimate, so I replied saying the camera was available. I promptly recieved a ‘confirmation’ email that seemed equally legitimate (face value) but after seeing the address was to Nigeria, my scammer sense was tingling.

The email was from the address “payment-message@amazon.co.uk”

It was titled “Sold, dispatch now. Canon EOS 3000V 35mm SLR Camera (incl. EF 28-90mm f/4.0-5.6 II Lens Kit)”

    The users details/ address are:

    Invoice address:
    Order placed by: Tracy Ajibola
Address Line 1: 8 Tarn Croft
    Address Line 2:
    Town / City : Eastfield
    County: Northampton
    Post Code: Nn32AN
    Country: United Kingdom

    Delivery address:
Dispatch to: Mr Olatunji J. Ajibola
Address Line 1: 4, funsho george street
    Address Line 2:
    Town / City : Agege
    County: Lagos
    Post Code: 23401
    Country: Nigeria

    Buyer’s Name: Mrs Tracy Ajibola
    Buyer’s e-mail: tracy_tck90@yahoo.com

There were also all the other usual details included, like the packing slip details etc, and when to dispatch it.

Funnily enough, these packages also all seem to be asking to be sent to the Lagos province (with what I am assuming is the same post-code). I also recieved something else strange in the email, which nobody else has mentioned.

“Note: You should dispatch item not later than 2 working days and get back
to us with the shipment tracking reference number for verification of
shipment to aid funds authorised to your account. Also we shall not remove
item off sale not until you dispatch it and email us the tracking reference
number. Get back to :cus-05-ser :[cust-serv-05@consultant.com].

I decided to email the ‘cust-serv-05’ out of curiosity to see if they’d reply. I pretended to be unaware and sent the following email:

I recieved an order for a camera I put up for sale, it’s saying I need to email back with a tracking reference. What is this? I have never had to email this before.

Also – the order has not come up in my seller account so I cannot print the packing slip. I’m assuming it could be that it takes a day to go through but I’m not sure. Please get back to me.

After only a few minutes I recieved a reply!

    It was titled “DISPATCH IMMEDIATELY”

    Here’s the email:

    Dear Deller,

Due to an international sale, you can not see the order history on your account, you need to dispatch item immediately and get back to us with the shipment tracking reference number to aid order history reflect and funds credited to your account.

You can find the shipment tracking reference number on the shipment receipt.

    Warmest Regards,
    Jaypee Verdaguer
    http://www.amazon.co.uk
    Amazon.co.uk Seller Support

…First I wondered who ‘Deller’ was. But I think I get it, with all the spelling mistakes and bad english as mentioned before.

I had to laugh though, “Due to an international sale it will not come up in your seller account”. Of course. Amazon is slightly safer. My sister actually did get scammed, when she put a Nintendo DS up for sale on a website called Gumtree. Which you have to use paypal through.

The scammers basically faked the paypal site. They’d pretended to send half the money, and she sent the nintendo to Nigeria. Oh well.

Also – to the woman complaining that this is a Nigerian hating site. I do apologise for these particular scammers coming from your country.

I just received a similar series of emails, each sketchier than the previous.

I had gotten an email inquiring about the state of the iPod, and subsequently an email stating the “buyer” wanted to buy the iPod for someone’s birthday and needed it shipped ASAP so it would get there by Friday. Sketchy, right? And it seemed eerily similar to a few of the stories listed above. I then got a phony “invoice”, which I’ve pasted below.

Obviously, I did not fall for it, but it looked pretty legitimate until I checked my Amazon.com account and realized my product was still listed and no purchases had been made.

I may be young, but I’m not an idiot. Listen to your gut feeling! I also notified Amazon.com as well as the EFCC after this encounter.

Here’s a copy of the “invoice” that was sent to me. (Note, that the email is amazon.messags@accountant.com….i believe “messags” was a giveaway) I’ve added a few notes to the spots which made me suspicious.

WOW @bettina this is the EXACT same thing my sister just went through. This Erica Major woman, an 8gb ipod touch, someone’s (her father’s) birthday.

I’ve just been a victim of a scam also on Amazon. I feel like such a fool as my gut instinct was telling me not to post the phone.
I can’t believe no one is doing anthing about this. Amazon refuse to take any responsiblity for this. I’d like to know how did the scammer get my personal email if not from Amazon??
I’m so angry as I really needed the money from the sale of that item.
I won’t be using Amazon again, that’s for sure.

    • anon on

Exactly the same here! I didn’t want to send a phone, then changed my mind and realized a few hours later it was a Scam. I feel like such an idiot now. I really needed the money too. Amazon should have given warnings about this as I didn’t know the set up that they used for a Sale.
The address always has the same postcode so alarm bells should also be ringing when they typed it into the Post office system!!!! I am so annoyed right now and I too want to know how the scammer got my email address from amazon !!

  25. Brenda on

Is anyone getting fishy stuff like this from Craigs List? I think someone is trying the same thing with me, so I’m being very cautious. Will probably just not sell it — will insist on local, and cash only. He asked me to ship it to him, give him the total (cost of item plus shipping) and he’d send payment to paypal. I asked for zip code to see if I could get an estimate on shipping cost, and he gave me 23401. I found it is in Virginia, but also Nigeria. The guy also tends to type (speak) in broken english, so I’m being very, very cautious!

    • anon on

Don’t send anything to that address !! That is the one I got scammed on !!

  26. Brenda on

Well, guess what?? It is a scam — got an email that went to my spam box and it was a phony payment to paypal from this guy — in Nigeria!

    ADELEYE ADENIYI
    71,Ibidun Street,
    Off Ojuelegba Road
    Surulere Lagos
    Nigeria
    23401

It asked me to send tracking number to show it was shipped and then my account would receive the money.

OK, with craig’s list — everything will be cash only and local! Another person wanted me to hold it for him for an extra $30 and he’d send me a money order for it and arrange for someone to pick it up. I told him that since someone would pick it up, I wanted cash, not a money order. Never heard from him. Soooooo, beware even when using Craig’s List!!!

  27. Asid on

I nearly got scammed with an almost identical email. I wanted to sell my Sony Ericsson C903 and then I received one of those bogus emails. It seemed genuine apart from the fact that it wanted shipping to Nigeria. I then noticed a few punctuation errors. When I went on my seller account on Amazon the item wasnt even indicated as being sold.
So I just emailed the scammers with a bit of abuse and they left me alone.

  28. Apratim Guha on

In my case I received the email from “orders@amazon.co.uk” which almost fooled me. Only the fact that I had to mail the package to Nigeria was a red flag.

And do not apologize to that lady; she is lying: we can not sell electronic items outside our respective countries unless we are professional sellers.

  29. Eunice Oghinan on

Thanks I do appreciate the apology. I do regret your being scammed. There are a lot of people taking advantage of your payment systems. Caution is necessary and avoid shipping goods before you recieve cash. To call an unknown Lady a liar because she is Nigerian, is unwise. To see all Nigerians (over a 100 million) as liars and scammers is ignorant. There are 10,000s of university educated people unemployed sitting in front of computers ready to rip anybody off irrespective of Nationality. Cash before delivery is the watch word (even for a Nigerian Lady). Thanks for putting Lady before the Liar.
So check for the scam not the nationality. The same people will change nationality (call themselves Ethopian for example) and still suceed in ripping you off using the same old scam because you are checking for the wrong things. Any business that asks for trust involves the risk of scam. Maybe cash in hand would be more interesting than trust (over long distances) no matter how much is being offered.
Ok, who is a professional seller?

I feel so silly that I almost fell for this – I had actually taken the parcel to the Post Office and "sent" it at 3pm this afternoon. By 5pm I realised it was a scam and I contacted the local Sorting Office. Thankfully I had an extremely helpful chap on the end of the phone who found the parcel for me and advised me what to do next. I called my local Police station and they sent a PC out to meet me at the Sorting Office at 7pm where the parcel was retreived for me. I was EXTREMELY fortunate, and had it been an hour and a half later, it would have been on its way to Heathrow and been much more difficult to retreive.

I will be speaking to the Fraud team tomorrow to assist them with any details – I just hope nobody else falls for this scam.

    • Dan Frost on

Usually I just look for obvious grammatical errors in their emails. Often they use i instead of I
seems is often used instead of seem

If you just log into your Amazon account through the website (don’t go via email links) you can easily see your money in a ‘pending state’ you can see how much has been paid in you just cannot access it straight away until you confirm shipment.

All Amazon’s emails end with amazon.co.uk or .com or . whatever country you are ordering it from. They told me they never have any ending like mail.com, marketplace.com etc etc

You can just reply through the messages box in your sellers account so this stops anyone from gaining access to your private email.

Also other things like who in their right mind would pay £65 postage, the person that wanted me to send an item to Italy said they had enclosed £300 shipping charge O_o on a £100 phone!!! you can buy the phone in Italy for like £160 so it might sound corny but if it’s too good to be true, then it usually is.

I would point out more mistakes in the scammers messages but I don’t want them to see it on this page, so if anyone wants more details on the messages I have been sent I would be happy to forward on what I have found. I have had 100s of people trying to scam me, so I use a separate email address and have a little fun with them 😉

      • AJ on

Guyz, i have received the exact same as you. John Clarke from Northampton, 8 Tarn Croft.
I’m going to hunt this person down. A little help. Search for the IP Address and either get hacker friend or the Cops to find them. Lets see if i can.

Thanks for the heads up everyone!!!!

every things changing, they now use addresses in Europe pls be vigilant. i was scammed of my black berry bold 9000 under the name of jide jonson. and the funny thing is that im nigerian.

  33. camilla maddison on

I very nearly got scammed too! Through amazon. They did the trick of asking me a question first and supplying their email address so I reply with my email address. I found this page when trying to figure out if I’d been scammed, so here some tips for some people who’ve found this page and think they may have been scammed!

    1. Any emails from amazon should correlate with information on the website! If an email says its sold, but the website doesn’t, then sorry, it hasn’t sold.

    2. Go on “view full headers” on all important amazon emails for example ones that say things have sold. Some emails can say “from: sales@amazon.co.uk” but really be from someone different!

    3. Don’t just hate nigera. Mine was a scam to italy. They probably have warehouses all over, with hundreds of scammed products sent there every day.

    4. Amazon/any other legitimate company would never ask for your bank details, passwords, or any security things over email.

    5. Never send anything unless you are 100% sure about the payment coming through. Its more fuss to get a parcel back from royal mail than get a late status on your seller account!

    6. Look for grammatical errors in emails. These people all seem to be forgein, working world wide. Their english is poor and they seem to use certain words a lot, such as “kindly”, “regards” and “convenience”. They also don’t seem to use capitals correctly or punctuation.

Below is the forged email I received from amazon, the first bit of information is how it showed in my inbox as sender information, and the second is the information when selected “show full headers”, when you can see the email is actually from server.pakistanihosting.com

Think I’m going to let my local post office know about this so that if anyone tries to send them stuff they’ll warn them. And I advise you do the same!

  34. Jack Johnson on

i know what to do. Fight fire with fire. Hehhehheh.. seems better than whining all day long. Put up a fake item for sale. Then wait for the red-flaggers to start making offers. We already know what they want and their tactics, so just play along. There are many things you COULD do, but that would put you on par with them and risk getting into some criminal shit.

You could reverse scam them, just google and see for yourself. One way or another, play it safe and follow your gut feeling.

  35. Dave on

I wish I had read stuff like this before I shipped my stuff, with the exact same thing happening to me.
Unfortunately I was so excited by the prospect of a sale I sent it anyway without thinking it was suspicious.

  36. dbstjdals on

This same thing happened to me too. I was very excited since the email said that amazon has credited me with 95 dollars of shipping credit…. which was VERY strange. I wasnt complaining though lol

I was trying to figure out how to confirm shipment of my camer a since I was new to selling on amazon, but then I saw that it was still open listings and I was very suspicious.

The email address that I got was: iriwood@yahoo.com, with an AUTHENTIC looking orders@amazon.com. I thought they couldnt use “amazon.com”,,, oh well..

I am trying to play along, but I am kind of disappointed that I didnt actually make the sale it would’ve been alot of money.

  37. Alexandra on

Fuck! I was about to ship it! It was already wrapped! Same story, camera, shipped to Nigeria for the father’s birthday! The spoof order confirmation e-mail was sent from <Amazon.co.uk So well done!

Holy shit. I was just about to send out an N900 to nigeria.god damn it. My very first attempt on selling on Amazon and…BAH! i’m glad I came across this page!!!!!

  39. Surlauber on

Their latest tactic is to write you from their Amazon buyers’ account, usually with text like this:

    —————————————————–
i don’t seems to get pics on here pls send them to : katherine.clare24 at yahoo dot com
    —————————————————–

I get one of these every couple of days…I replied just the very first time, sending them pictures of my goods. What happens after that is you get a faked email claiming you’ve sold the item and to ship to Nigeria.

TWO RULES TO WACTH OUT FOR:

    1) always check your Amazon account directly to see if you really have sold anything

    2) always, ALWAYS, treat anything to do with Nigeria as a scam attempt.

It’s sad, but true. These criminals are giving an entire country and their people a bad name.

I’ve contacted Amazon about this but there is not really anything they can do. They can collect the user names and email addresses and block them, but as we all know these things are limitless.

Amazon UK is badly infested. I don’t really sell much there nowadays, the traffic is not there anymore.

Someone needs to figure out a solution. My solution would be for Amazon to make every new user read and confirm they have understood the dangers of scamming. This should greatly reduce successful scams. If the Nigerians are not getting any success, then they will at least leave Amazon alone and try elsewhere.

  40. mrbean on

Scammed today… I received an email that looked like a genuine Amazon one – super busy at work I looked at it again on day 2, which is the deadline for shipping – so I rushed to the post office to send the item in time. I did not really pay attention to the fact I was sending to Nigeria. Once home I properly checked my Amazon account and could not find the order. Got a bad feeling, did some research and – yes – the delivery address was the same used for previous scams. Who knows if I can get the parcel stopped? It should not have gone too far yet as I posted it on a saturday? I really feel like sending them one more parcel full of…

Thanks to this web site i have just managed to stop myself from becoming there next scam victim, selling my mobile phone on gumtree, i got an email asking me to post to her nephew, said no problem, when i sent the pay pal request, she payed promptly, asking me to post to michael adams, 3 anuoluwapo street, off market, shomolu, lagos, 2341, nigeria.

Also that i was to tell pay pal the tracking number once posted, i didnt know pay pal didnt ask for this until i read the comments on here so thanks very much guys

  43. Joanne on

Just received an email from Pay Pal, confirming that the above post was infact a scam and a doggy pay pal account!! So watch out

  44. Monica on

I was scammed with the exact same thing. Only difference is my ‘buyer’ was shipping it to thier ‘father’ as a birthday present…in Nigeria. They wanted the same thing to-to be sure i could ship within the same week. I thought the emails were suspicious because they kept repeating a lot of what they said and asked for my seller name and the product’s AIS number(so they could use it in the ‘ship now confirmation’). I knew it was 100% fraud when my email name showed up on the ‘ship confirmation’. The name I use to my email is fake and i never entered it anywhere on amazon(or anywhere else).
The ‘ship now’ fraud confirmation was sent from ‘amazon.com’ instead of the REAL ‘marketplace’.

i was nearly scammed to within hours of advertising my phone i had a so called willing buyer unlike for husband this time it was for fionsa birthday i sussed it the moment they asked to post asap to nigeria jus thought i post. be carful ppl never ship to anywhere in nigeria whole counrty is a SCAM

  46. Chloe on

I was nearly scammed recently by a person called Erica Harvey who claimed wanted to buy my PDA for her dad’s birthday gift. The recipient name is Gabriel Olatunji who is in Nigeria. Address was 5 Kings Road Command Ipaja Lago 23401 Nigeria. Thanks to the vigilance of the post office lady who reminded me there are lots of scams involving posting to Nigeria. The story was I was asked to send photos of my PDA to her personal email account. Without hesitation, I sent it. She then made the payment a day later. However, I noticed that my item is still under open listing. I double checked with amazon about this, I also received ’email’ from amazon saying do not worry and ship my items ASAP. Luckily I have Nigerian flatmate confirmed that Nigeria does not have postcode. I also found out the email address from ‘amazon’ was sellers-supports-reply@consultant.com. Please be vigilant when you are asked to send an item to Nigeria for someone’s birthday present.

Thanks all…this saved me from sending a PlayStation.
    Unbelivable…
It sounded so real that I called Amazon and even he wasn’t sure..and connected me to their market sales…
